Who is holland going to go with to this vivit of Obama?

When French President Francois Hollande flew to Washington this week for a state visit, he brought along a lot of baggage.
Hollande left France know and admitted that he cheated on his partner of seven years with a younger movie actress, making this week's trip something of an escape for the embattled president.
The former French first lady Valerie Trierweiler whom Obama said in November he was looking forward to hosting, isn't coming to the White House now that Hollande has announced their split.
He says his private life is private, but Hollande's not denying the affair. Now he's in America solo for one of Washington's most tradition-bound events, where protocol dictates nearly everything and a slip-up, however unlikely, could wind up offending a top ally.

France's Unpopular President Hits New Bump

Three-quarters of the French already think Francois Hollande is doing a lousy job of running the world's No. And now a big policy address Tuesday is sure to be overshadowed by personal troubles so awkward that even the famously blase French can't ignore them.
His first lady, journalist Valerie Trierweiler, is hospitalized because of a tabloid report that Hollande is having an affair with a somewhat recognizable French actress. Trierweiler may remain in the hospital for six to eight days to recover from the "very strong emotional shock," her chief of staff said Monday.
Hollande is a lifelong bachelor, though he has four children with former presidential candidate Segolene Royal. He and Trierweiler have lived together since 2007, and while they're unmarried, Trierweiler occupies the so-called "madame wing" of the presidential palace, travels abroad with Hollande and functions as the first lady.
The French public initially shrugged off talk about the secret affair as Hollande's private business. But pollsters said Monday that Trierweiler's hospitalization renders the scandal more serious, and is likely to damage Hollande's already-record-low popularity ratings.

'Only' 1,067 vehicles set ablaze on New Year’s Eve in France

By French standards, it was a peaceful New Year’s Eve.
Only 1,067 cars and vans were destroyed by arson, a “significant” reduction of more than 10 per cent compared to the number of vehicles set ablaze last year, according to Manuel Valls, the Interior Minister.
All things considered, it was a “positive result”, Mr Valls told a press conference on Wednesday. He said he regretted the deaths of three people in knife attacks in Paris and in eastern and southern France.
Car-torching has been adopted as a modern New Year tradition by some young revellers in France. The practice reportedly began in earnest amongst youths - often in poor neighbourhoods - in the 1990s in the region around Strasbourg in the east of the coutnry.
Last year 1,193 vehicles were burned, according to official figures.
